Vladyk Kasyanov, son of the V. Rev. Protopresbyter Yuriy Kasyanov of Riverhead, New York recently received some notable achievement awards from the New York State school system.

Archbishop-Metropolitan Michael with the V. Rev. Yuriy Kasyanov at SS. Boris & Hlib Cathedral, Cleveland Eight year old Vladyk received the first place award for inter-school Math competition and third place in the annual regional science fair. Vladyk came to the United States with his father, V. Rev. Yuriy and mother, Pani Matka Olena Kasyanov in December of 2003. After only a year and a half in the country, Vladyk excels in many areas of study, including fluency in the English language.

Metropolitan Michael, presiding hierarch of the church commended Vladyk for his achievements, "We are proud that Vladyk is continuing to excel in his studies. This is a most important priority for the future life of such a young person. Over the years I have seen quite a few of our Ukrainian and other overseas born students reach high achievements in the academic realm. This is especially notable when the students are children of our dedicated clergy. In these cases, the entire household must make many sacrifices of time and talent to accommodate both the church and their school and home life. We are very proud of all of our Ukrainian, Arabic and other young people born overseas, who have adapted to and excelled in American society. It is a significant credit to both themselves and their parents, for nourishing equally, their academic and spiritual lives."
