Chernobyl Charity Online Launched To Support Victims of the World`s Worst Nuclear Tragedy

KYIV, Ukraine. March 28, 2000. A unique non-commercial site, Chernobyl Charity Online, was launched March 28 in Kyiv at www.Chernobyl.com.ua.

Chernobyl.com.ua introduces an absolutely new for Ukraine and the whole CIS concept of electronic charity, or "click charity". Anybody in the world can contribute to donating medicines for Ukrainian Chernobyl hospitals at NO COST for him/her, simply by clicking on the sponsor links placed on www.Chernobyl.com.ua. The site also has three online charity stores, where US residents can buy electronics, books, and toys online. At present, the site is fully in English, but there are plans to introduce multilingual options.

During the beta-testing period, March 21-26, a total of 110 charity donations have already been made on the site, which is equivalent to full monthly ration of vitamins and minerals for 5 Chernobyl children. "We plan to attract 3-4 thousand visitors every day in two-three months, which would enable us to buy medicine worth over US $7,000 per month," said Denis Oleinikov, founder of www.Chernobyl.com.ua. He added that one hundred percent of commission received from the site's sponsors would go directly to charity.
