Metropolitan and Archbishop Make Pastoral Visitation to
Holy Trinity Church, Bridgeport, CT

Hierarchs of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the USA made a visit to the East Coast Deanery of the Metropolia from February 2 through 12. One highlight of the tour was a pastoral visitation to Holy Trinity Church in Bridgeport, CT, on Sunday, Feb. 4.

Their Beatitudes, Metropolitan Stephan and Metropolitan Alexis and His Eminence, Archbishop Michael concelebrated the Pontifical Divine Liturgy with the Very Rev. Oleksa Chouter, pastor of Holy Trinity Church and a priest of the UAOC in the USA. Archbishop Michael delivered the Ukrainian homily and Metropolitan Stephan spoke at the conclusion of the Liturgy concerning the spiritual and cultural goals of the UAOC in the USA and the importance of the Kyiv Patriarchate and the work of His Holiness, Patriarch Filaret.

As the service neared the end, Metropolitan Stephan and Archbishop Michael bestowed a jeweled cross and epigonation upon Fr. Oleksa, elevating him to the rank of Protopresbyter in recognition of his distinguished service to our Metropolia and the Ukrainian Church in general.

The Liturgy concluded with a forty-day Panakhyda for the deceased Vice-President of the parish uprava.

A dinner was held in the parish hall where the bishops were welcomed by Mr. Anatoly Falko, church board president. Metropolitan Stephan again addressed the people on the issue of preserving our Ukrainian religious and cultural identity. After the meal, the hierarchs had the chance to speak with the many parishioners gathered for the occasion, before they left Bridgeport for New York City.

Pictures from this historic visit will be available in the near future.
