Armenian Primate Receives UAOC Hierarchs at NYC Cathedral
The Prmiate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America, His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian received the Hierarchs of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church
on Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at the Armenian Diocese's Chancery Office on Second Avenue in New York City.
The bishops exchanged gifts and discussed matters of concern to both churches. Of particular interest was Archbishop Barsamian's discussion of plans for the official celebration
of 1700 years of Armenian Christianity to be observed next year.
After the meeting, a tour of the majestic St. Vartan Cathedral was offered to the prelates. The Cathedral, in traditional Armenian style, was consecrated in 1968 and is a tribute to the spiritual efforts of Armenian Christians in America.
Metropolitan Stephan recalled the great respect and love that he has for the Armenian people which was cultivated during the late 1970s and early 1980s at St. Gregory of Narek Armenian Church in Richmond Heights, Ohio. The parish did not have a priest from 1972 until 1985. During that time, Vladyka Stephan, while still a priest,
was called upon to officiate at several funerals for the Armenian community.
